Sexual Harassment Course

This brief, information course was designed specifically for the busy student. Current issues facing all types of students (social media, online course taking, etc.) make this course engaging and necessary for any student population.

In this course students will:
  • Understand the importance of their institution’s policy
  • Learn what harassment is and what it is not
  • Explore the seven conditions for sexual harassment under the law
  • Understand their roles and responsibilities on campus
Below is a brief description of each learning module the student will complete. This course takes students approximately 45 minutes.

Module 1 – Introduction to Sexual Harassment
The first module of our Harassment Prevention on Campus focuses on setting the stage for sexual harassment training by explaining the scope of the course, revealing the core issues that surround harassing behavior, and the various kinds of consequences that a campus can expect as a result of a harassment incident. Additionally, you will review and acknowledge your organization's sexual harassment policy.

The learning outcomes for this module are:
  • Learn what sexual harassment is and what it is not
  • Understand how common sexual harassment is on campus
  • Learn roles and responsibilities on campus
  • Look at the consequences that result from harassing behavior
  • Acknowledge the college or university sexual harassment policy


Module 2 –Recognizing Sexual Harassment on Campus
Sexual harassment stems from instances of unwelcome behavior. Understanding what constitutes unwelcome behavior and how to keep unwelcome behavior out of the academic environment are the core objectives of this module.

The learning outcomes for this module are:
  • Learn the seven conditions for sexual harassment under the law
  • Recognize the problems unwelcome behavior can create
  • Understand the different forms harassment can take
  • Review Impact vs. Intent in the academic setting
  • Explore the Power vs. Gender dynamic


Module 3 – Responding to Sexual Harassment on Campus
Being able to recognize unwelcome behaviors on campus is only the first step to containing and overcoming sexual harassment. This module focuses on the responsibilities of those on campus who encounter harassment as a witness, a victim, or as a third-party who learns of the unwelcome behavior. Additionally, this module covers how to handle false allegations, discusses issues of confidentiality, and reviews steps anyone can take to stop harassment.

The learning outcomes for this module are:
  • Explore the different experiences a learner can have with harassment
  • Recognize the consequences for false allegations and retaliatory actions
  • Learn why victims don’t speak up against harassment
  • Understand the responsibilities of the learner when faced with harassment
